Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is about more than just communicating with police about suspicious activity in Jefferson Manor. Neighborhood Watch forms networks of neighbors to share information and build community. If you value community, Neighborhood Watch is for you! The Neighborhood Watch Committee met recently and plans to build awareness of Neighborhood Watch among residents through neighborhood events, magnets and decals, and visible signs at neighborhood entrances. The committee is also recruiting block captains to help gather information from and communicate information to clusters of about 20 of their neighbors. If you are interested in becoming a block captain or joining the Neighborhood Watch email list, contact watch@JeffersonManor.org.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

If you see suspicious activity: first report it to the Police, then report it to Neighborhood Watch.

If property is at risk or someone is at risk of injury or death, immediately call 911. Do not under any circumstances approach suspicious individuals or attempt to apprehend any criminals.

If you see a suspicious individual or vehicle, or have any non-emergency information, first call the Fairfax County Police non-emergency number: 703-691-2131. Afterwards, please add this incident to the "Report Suspicious Activity" form, so our Neighborhood Watch also has a record of the incident. Your personal contact information will not be shared with anyone other than the Jefferson Manor Neighborhood Watch Coordinators and the Police Department. You may also submit a report without your contact information; however, the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator will not be able to contact you with any follow-up questions or related information unless you provide contact information.

Safety First

Here are five ways that you can make Jefferson Manor an even safer place to live:

  1. Leave your porch light on all night, every night
(This increases visibility for residents and patrolling officers; making our neighborhood less inviting to criminals and more inviting for residents.)
  2. Connect with your Block Captain
  3. Sign up Neighborhood Watch Email Updates
  4. Report Suspicious Activity to the Police (information above)
  5. Report Suspicious Activity to the Neighborhood Watch

National Night Out 2007

Thanks to all who came out (and volunteered their time) to make our third annual National Night Out grill-out a huge success. Despite the heat, we again had a great turnout. Jefferson Manor’s NNO event was one of the largest in the Mt. Vernon District, with well over 100 residents eating burgers and ice cream, chatting with their neighbors, and meeting local police and government officials. Photos of our event were featured in the Mt. Vernon Voice. Thanks to all who came out to show that Jefferson Manor is a vibrant and caring community.
