JMCA Cares / Volunteer Opportunities
Jefferson Manor Citizens Association cares. Working with driven individuals or organizations, we strive to "give back" to those in need. If you wish to spearhead a collection drive or volunteer event, please contact volunteer@JeffersonManor.org. Some activities we've sponsored in the past (and encourage you to continue!) include:
General Mills “Box Tops for Education”
Collect General Mills “Box Tops” coupons to earn money for Mount Eagle Elementary. “Box Tops” are found on hundreds of participating General Mills products. Each coupon is worth 10¢ for Mount Eagle Elementary School. Turn the coupons into the front office at the school. If you have questions, call the school at 703-721-2100.
Animal Shelter Donations
Thank you to all who donated to the animal shelter as a part of our August 2006 community drive. We collected a sizable amount of goods (towels, blankets, shoe boxes)—including some hand-made boxes and toys! Remember the shelter when you have tattered towels and empty shoe boxes (the shelter uses these as disposable litter boxes).
The Fairfax County animal shelter is operated by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located at 4101 Eisenhower Avenue. For more info, call 703-838-4774.
Habitat for Humanity
Hammers were swung, wood was cut and walls were built as JMCA joined up with Habitat for Humanity on April 15, 2006. A good time was had by all, and we have started what should be a fruitful relationship with the local Habitat branches. For more information on Habitat for Humanity, visit www.habitat.org.
American Red Cross, Hurricane Katrina Relief
In response to Hurricane Katrina, JMCA arranged to collect donations from our community on behalf of the American Red Cross. We directly sponsored 30 Gulf Coast residents. Thank you to all who participated in the program. The final group contributions were sent November 15, 2005 to the American Red Cross. JMCA is not collecting any more block donations for this effort; however, you may donate directly to the American Red Cross at www.RedCross.org or 1-800-HELP-NOW.
