While the Land Use Committee will attempt to keep this section of the Jefferson Manor website updated with relevant information, community residents may also want to consult the Fairfax County website for planning and land use information. The page for the Department of Planning and Zoning is a good starting point. Resources of note include the Comprehensive Plan, which lays out in general terms the county's planning goals for different areas, and the Zoning Ordinance, which defines restrictions for each type of zoning district. Jefferson Manor is zoned R-8, and the regulations for this zone can be found in Article 3 of the Zoning Ordinance. The Land Use Committee plans to hold a workshop that deals with the specific restrictions of the R-8 zone at some point in the near future. The Fairfax County website also has schedules and agendas for upcoming Board of Supervisors meetings and Planning Commission meetings.
Jefferson Manor residents may want to pay particular attention to the Area Plan Review process, which is currently underway for South County areas (including Jefferson Manor). Several entities have proposed amendments to area plan language pertaining to parcels in the vicinity of Jefferson Manor. See the Area Redevelopment Projects page for more information.
Jefferson Manor lies within the Lee Supervisor District and the Mount Vernon Planning District.
