The School Street Ramblers Return to Calvary : Potluck Dessert and Concert
Location: Calvary Presbyterian Church
Join us for an entertaining and fun evening of bluegrass, folk, praise, and rock music! In Calvary ’s downstairs fellowship hall, the School Street Ramblers will play old favorites, as well as new songs and several original tunes. Bring the whole family to this free evening of music, friendship, wonderful desserts, and the old-time style show with somewhat-true stories and a surprise or two. Feel free to invite a friend or two; all are welcome! While the event is free, we ask that you bring a donation of non-perishable food to the show. All collected food will go to United Community Ministries (UCM), a local non-profit service agency. UCM currently needs these items most: canned goods (soups, fruits, vegetables, beans and meat), tuna, pasta, rice, tomato sauce, cereal, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, jelly, dry milk, baby food, diapers, small boxes (juice, fruit and cereal), pop-top cans of meat, small containers of apple sauce and raisins, and nutritional bars. JMCA Bowling Night
Location: AMC Alexandria Bowling Lanes
Cost is $4.75 per game, plus $4.25 for bowling shoes. If we have 20 or more people, we can get a special rate -- $10.99 per person for two hours of unlimited bowling, including shoes. There is also food and drink available.

Annual Neighborhood Spring Plant Swap Brunch
Location: Huntington Community Center, Liberty Drive
Calling all neighborhood gardeners! You are invited to Huntington’s annual Spring Plant Swap Brunch on Saturday, May 3. Residents bring in their extra seedlings, bulbs, roots, or seeds from our gardens to exchange or give away, along with an item to share for a potluck brunch. We also use the time to trade information about our garden’s problems, pests, plans, and successes, and about what works and what doesn’t in our corner of the county.

Location: Janet's Java
Come celebrate Derby Day AND Cinco de Mayo with your neighbors. Janet does not have a hard liquor license, so no 'ritas or Mint Juleps, but she will have beer and wine. As a special thank you to those who have paid their JMCA memberships for 2008, members will have free entry; all others pay a $5 cover charge (which you can of course avoid by simply paying your 2008 membership at the door!

Supervisor McKay walk through
Location: Neighborhood-wide
Thursday, July 31: 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (rain date: August 21)Join us for the entire walk or meet us on your street in front of your home. We will be starting at Mt. Eagle Elementary. The route will include Fairhaven, Edgehill, Albermarle, Fort and Jefferson. If you have questions or concerns you want Supervisor McKay to address, please email president@jeffersonmanor.org no later than Wednesday, July 30.

August 5th (Tuesday) at 7:00 PM

National Night Out
Location: 5941 Edgehill Drive
Jefferson Manor Neighborhood Watch and the JMCA will be sponsoring a free hot dog and hamburger grill-out at Matt & Rachel Haws’ house at 5941 Edgehill Drive, starting at 7:00 p.m. And ice cream (served at 8 p.m.) is back by popular demand. National Night Out is an annual occasion for neighbors to get together, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and build police-community relationships. It is also one of the main events in Jefferson Manor each year. Last year, we had a crowd of well over 125. The event helped launch our most successful year of Neighborhood Watch yet. Police officers and county supervisors are planning to stop by. This is a great chance to meet your neighbors and show the area officials and local residents that Jefferson Manor is a vibrant community with active neighbors who care.

JMCA Annual Picnic
Location: Jefferson Manor Park
This is one of the neighborhood’s most popular events, so come out and spend some time with friends you know and new friends you will get to know. JMCA will provide hot dogs and hamburgers (vegetarian options available), fixings, and non-alcoholic beverages. We ask that you bring a side dish or dessert to share. The picnic will kick off at 1 PM with brief opening remarks , then we will be grilling until 2:30 or so. Following that, we’re looking to rope the neighborhood’s more active inhabitants into some games (kickball? races? Stay tuned!). Kids, pets, significant others, mothers/fathers/siblings all welcome.

JMCA World Cup Qualifier outing
Location: RFK Stadium
The U.S. men's soccer team will make it's first appearance at RFK in years when it plays Cuba in a World Cup Qualifier at RFK stadium on Saturday, October 11 at 7:00pm. This is your chance to attend with a group of your neighbors! I have secured a group of 20 tickets in the 8th and 9th rows of Section 139. Tickets are $38 each (but no extra fees!) The seats are at the corner and fairly close to the playing field. Help JMCA celebrate Halloween on Saturday, November 1. There will be a costume contest and a parade. Bring yourself, your kids, your significant other and your pets for candy and fun.

Join the community for a potluck dinner to celebrate the holdays and the yars end. members are asked to co0ntribute an appetixzer, main dish, or desert to serve 4-6 people. JMCA will provide soft drinks; wine and beer will be available for sale.
