Come, play games, win prizes, hang out and dine à la potluck. Bring a dish or snack to share and, if you wish, a board or card game to play. There is a $5/adult contribution fee towards the space. JPI, an area land developer, is holding a series of Open Houses regarding its plans for redevelopment of a site near Jefferson Manor. The development project, called "King's Crossing", would be on the parcel that currently contains Chuck-E-Cheese Pizza and National Wholesale Liquidators, near the intersection of Kings Highway and U.S. Route 1. (This site is identified as site number 9 on the Area Redevelopment Projects page provided by the JMCA Land Use Committee.) The Open Houses will provide the opportunity for area residents to browse plans and other materials, and ask questions of the developer. For more information visit: www.kingscrossingva.com.

We will meet in order to: (1) discuss the goals of the block captain program; (2) discuss our new web-based reporting system; and (3) provide some printed materials for you to hand out to your neighbors. Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project: Telegraph Road Public Information Workshop
Cameron Elementary School (3434 Campbell Drive, Alexandria, VA 22303; 703-329-2100)
The workshop is arranged by the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project. Learn about design updates for the reconstructed Telegraph Road Interchange since the June 2005 meeting. See traffic modeling results for the grade-separated design for Telegraph Road intersections at Huntington Avenue and North Kings Highway. See the current designs for business and pedestrian access on Eisenhower Avenue. Hear about current and long-term construction activities at or near the Telegraph Road Interchange. Learn bicycle safety and participate in a bicycle rodeo course. Instructed by the Fairfax County Police. Sponsored by the Mount Vernon Evening Lions. Participants must be Elementary school age.

JMCA General Membership Meeting
The meeting will be held in the Mount Eagle Elementary School cafeteria. Mid Atlantic Mobile Notary Services will have a notary public available at the end of the meeting. They are waiving their travel fee, but will charge a $5/seal fee on any documents notarized during that time. Be sure to bring proper identification (e.g. valid driver's license, valid government issued non-driver's identification or valid passport). A handy service -- especially for Fort Drive residents who may need easements paperwork notarized!

May 22nd (Monday) at 7 PM
Lee District Area Plan Review Task Force Meeting
At this meeting, the task force will consider the proposed amendment to the county Comprehensive Plan regarding the Huntington Station shopping center site. Representatives of the JMCA Board of Directors will be in attendance to convey the Board's position on the question. Interested neighborhood residents are welcome to attend as well, and there will be limited opportunities for comment. For more information on the neighborhood position and the plan amendment proposal, please see our Huntington Station Redevelopment page. The meeting is at the Franconia Government Center at 6121 Franconia Road. Home & Garden Tour
The tour will showcase 12 different homes in two shifts (Noon-2 PM and 2 PM-4 PM). One of our homes was even featured on the HGTV show Curb Appeal – attend the tour & indulge your curiosity! To attend, space is limited and the fee is only $5/person for all four hours. Reserve your spot by purchasing tickets in advance; contact Sue at social@JeffersonManor.org for tickets. The tour will start at 6021 Williamsburg Road at noon (NEW STARTING LOCATION).

Summer Picnic
A annual JMCA event in Jefferson Manor Park. Join your neighbors for family-friendly fun at the summer picnic! There may even be a Moon Bounce for the kids! The afternoon will be spent catching up with friends, meeting new people and enjoying a tasty potluck lunch. JMCA will provide burgers, hot dogs, rolls and soda. Please bring a side dish for four to share.

The meeting will be held in the basement of Calvary Presbyterian Church (6120 N Kings Hwy; next to Mt Eagle Elementary). Our speaker will be Amanda Witt, a director and charter member of the Emergency Management Professional Organization for Women's Enrichment. She will present on “Emergency Preparedness at Home.”  Special thanks to Calvary Presbyterian for allowing us use of their facilities for our meeting.

Preparing Pets for Disaster

HAVE A PET? HAVE A PLAN...A panel of experts will convene to help local pet owners come up with emergency and disaster response plans for their pets. Sponsored by Fairfax Office of the American Red Cross of the National Capital Area, this "Preparing Pets for Disaster" workshop is free and open to the public, with no residency restrictions. National Night Out cookout
Jefferson Manor Neighborhood Watch and JMCA are sponsoring a free hot dog grill-out at 5941 Edgehill Drive from 7-8 PM on August 1st. National Night Out is an annual occasion for neighbors to get together, strengthen neighborhood spirit and build police-community relationships. This is a great chance to meet your neighbors. Last year, we had a crowd of nearly 100! Come, enjoy free food and conversation, and learn how participation in Neighborhood Watch can make Jefferson Manor even better.

60th Anniversary Planning Meeting
The 60th Anniversary Committee will be having a planning session on Wednesday, September 13th at 7:30 PM at 6011 Williamsburg Road. All are welcome to attend and contribute ideas. Our neighborhood turns 60 next Summer! Help plan the birthday bash!

Backyard Film Night [CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN]
Come watch Pirates of the Caribbean with your neighbors in this backyard film event! Bring something to sit on and a nominal amount of cash for popcorn and soda. Please leave pets at home (this is a NO PETS event). Arrive at 7 PM at 5841 Edgehill Drive to select your "seat"—the movie will start at dark. Come and enjoy the company and the flick!

September 19th (Tuesday) at 7 PM
JMCA General Membership Meeting
The meeting will be held in the Mount Eagle Elementary School cafeteria. Refreshments & community information will be served. SPECIAL PRESENTATION: REGISTER TO VOTE! The Fairfax County Office of the Registrar will join us to register voters. They will provide information on the registration process, absentee balloting, and how to become a poll worker in our community.

Neighborhood Clean-up Day
Time to get our streets and sidewalks ready for Autumn. Meet at 9:30 AM at 2724 Fort Drive where food, supplies, and street assignments will be provided. October 4 th (Wednesday) at 7 PM at Calvary Presbyterian Church
Mount Eagle Elementary Tutoring Orientation
The Eagle’s Wings tutoring program is seeking volunteer tutors and substitute tutors. The program is a joint effort by neighborhood participants, local churches and Mount Eagle Elementary School, and provides general tutoring for Mount Eagle second through sixth grade students. Tutors are assigned a student to work with on homework and basic skills improvement throughout the school year. Substitute tutors are called upon as needed. No prior experience is necessary; elementary level basic reading, writing and math skills are required. Tutoring times are Wednesday evenings from 7 PM-8 PM and 7:30 PM-8:30 PM. The first tutoring session starts October 11, 2006. If you would like to help tutor, please contact either Dot Heil (703-780-6658) or Nancy Leighton (703-960-0432; nleighton@toast.net). Mount Eagle Elementary School is also looking for volunteers during school hours. If you have time to give, please contact the school at 703-721-2100.

Halloween Parade
Put on your costume, dress up your kids and pets (this is a PET FREINDLY event!) and join your neighbors for a Halloween Parade. Bring a flashlight, as we engage upon a spooky neighborhood walk. Free candy for the kids! Meet at 5825 Edgehill Drive (at the corner of Farmington and Edgehill Drive) at 5:30 PM. See you there!
