60th Anniversary Committee

JMCA has establised a Jefferson Manor 60th Anniversary Committee to run the 60th anniversary celebration in the Summer of 2007. Our committee co-chairs are Christine Cridland (camay29@hotmail.com) and Katy Boehme (catherinewestover@hotmail.com). If you are interested in volunteering for the Anniversary Committee, please contact anniversary@JeffersonManor.org.

Planning in Progress

The Anniversary Committee has held several planning sessions to begin laying the ground work for the 60th anniversary celebration this upcoming Summer. Some of the items we discussed include:

  • The date for the celebration is Saturday, September 8, 2007. (Note: Labor Day is Monday September 3rd.)

Goals for the event include:

  • Community-building; Getting people involved
  • Increase visibility of Jefferson Manor to citizens, politicians and news media
  • Fundraising for Mount Eagle Elementary (possible goal; will discuss specific needs with Mt Eagle) and community association activities
  • Raise neighborhood safety awareness; advertise Neighborhood Watch
  • HAVE FUN!

Similar to the 50th anniversary celebration, we would like to:

  • Hold the event in a section of the Huntington Station Shopping Center parking lot (must get permission from A.J. Dwoskin & Associates), Jefferson Manor Park (permit from Fairfax County) or at Mount Eagle School.
  • Use the Fairfax County mobile stage for performances by local bands (must get permission from the County)
  • Have performances by local bands (family-friendly music)
  • Have a moon bounce for the kids
  • Have food vendors
  • Have a games area for the kids
  • Have a "face painting" stand
  • Have Jefferson Manor information & souvenirs stand
  • Have a Fairfax County information stand
  • Have a Police Department/Neighborhood Watch information stand
  • Have a Fire Department information stand (and possibly a fire truck)

Leading up to the celebration, we would like to:

  • Hold a Jefferson Manor T-shirt contest
  • Hold a few small events in preparation of the September bash
